The Snow Leopard is a medium sized feline, and one that is absolutely gorgeous. It has a very thick fur coat due to the regions where it lives. The coat is a gray or tan color with dark spots on it.
Snow Leopards are beautiful wild cats that reside in mountains of South and Central Asia. Scientists are still discussing the relationship of this animal to the other cats. The snow leopard, genus Panthera uncia, is not a typical leopard nor does it live in snow regions. It roams the mountain ranges of Russia, Siberia and western China. It can also be found in Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The Leopard is the smallest member of the genus Panthera. This genus is referred to as the big cats although there are cats of other genera of similar size to the Snow Leopard. Other big cats are the tiger, the lion and the jaguar.
